step one: arriving to managua

International flights to Managua are available with United Airlines, American Airlines, Avianca, Copa and Aero Mexico. Please check with your travel agent or the individual airline carriers for current schedules.

step two: fly to big corn island

Flights from Managua to Big Corn Island are operated by La Costeña airline, which is right next to the Managua Airport (Augusto C. Sandino International Airport). When you exit the Managua Airport doors, turn left and walk to the end of the airport, and you will see the La Costeña terminal. (5 minute walk). You can book your La Costeña flights online www.lacostena.com.ni or via a phone call +505 2298 5360. You can ask for an English speaking assistant. If you have any issues please contact us at reservations.yemaya@colibriboutiquehotels.com and we can assist you with this process. Return flights cost around $170 – $200 USD per person and are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-endorsable.

Your flight ticket price does not include airport taxes ($10 USD per person), which can be paid directly at La Costeña’s check in area. It is advised that you make reservations in advance, as seats can be limited at last minute (especially during busy periods). Please note that you are allowed to take only 30 lbs of checked luggage and one carry-on item weighing up to 20 lbs. More than this will incur a charge of $1.95 USD per additional pound.

Please be aware that flights from Managua sometimes stop on the way to Big Corn Island at Bluefields airport for 10 to 15 minutes to let passengers on or off.

step three: boat to little corn island

Boat transfer between Big Corn Island and Yemaya Reefs — Little Corn Island

Travel comfortably and safely aboard our 50-foot Mexican-built passenger catamaran, contracted exclusively by Yemaya Reefs for guest transfers. The vessel features an enclosed lower deck with comfortable seating, restroom facilities, a bar, and an open upper deck with a shaded roof—ideal for relaxing and enjoying the sea breeze.

– Safety: More stable on rough days than the smaller inter-island pangas

Schedule & connections
– Departure from Yemaya Reefs to Big Corn: daily at 12:00 PM — arrives in time for the afternoon flight to Managua.
– Departure from Big Corn to Yemaya Reefs: daily at 4:00 PM — connects with afternoon arrivals from Managua, arriving at Yemaya around 5:00 PM for immediate check-in, a swim, and dinner.

Pricing
– $45 per person each way (includes boat transfer plus private AC van to/from the Big Corn dock).

Optional overnight & island time
If you prefer a more relaxed connection, stay the night on Big Corn at our partner hotel, Arenas Beach, and depart the next morning to catch your Managua flight. This is a great opportunity to enjoy Big Corn’s restaurants, beaches, and tours.
